The Perfect Match

The Art of Pattern Matching

Nothing looks more polished and professional than a perfectly pattern-matched garment. Pattern matching is a sewing technique that involves matching a print or patterned fabric at every seam line. It’s an essential skill in how a couture designer cuts and sews the fabric. Depending on the size of the garment and the repeat of the pattern, additional fabric may be needed.

It is actually one of my biggest pet peeves when I’m out shopping in designer stores and I see a pattern visually distorted across every seam line. Although pattern matching takes extra time and patience to perfect, it increases the garment’s price and adds a high-end touch to any bespoke piece.

Quality Over All Else

The Art of Pattern Matching

At Champagne Corsets, you will always find our corsets pattern matched at the seam lines. Even though corsets are extremely curvy and the seams are not straight lines, I take the extra time to skillfully match the print no matter the type of fabric I use. It is important to me to not only perfect the fit of our corsets but also to produce visual interest in a balanced, harmonious effect with every corset.

The next time you’re out shopping for clothing, pay attention to garments made with printed fabrics and see if there is a disruption in the pattern across the seam lines. Once you wear garments that are pattern-matched, I guarantee you will never go back to ones that are not!

Let’s get started on a custom handmade corset of your own! I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Please comment below.

Cheers.
